Hospice Care
Hospice provides emotional, physical, and spiritual care in the final stages of life.
Being with the people you love matters, especially near the end of life. Our hospice team provides physical, emotional, and spiritual care to relieve symptoms of discomfort and stress for you and your family.
Our Approach to Hospice Care
When dignity, the comfort of home, and the security of being with those you love are what matters, hospice care is a natural choice. Virtua has partnered with Samaritan to provide you and your family with services to help you live as fully and peacefully as possible at the tender time when life expectancy may be limited.
Your hospice team includes physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and home health aides. Together, they provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care to relieve symptoms of discomfort and stress.
Hospice helps by managing pain, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, and problems eating, drinking, or communicating. Hospice also addresses anxiety, depression and grief.
Benefits include:
- Care where you need it—at home or an assisted living or nursing facility
- Peace of mind, with staff on call 24 hours a day
- Personalized support based on your wishes
- Expert care by physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and home health aides
- Medications and equipment delivered to your home
- Open communication with your other doctors
Hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance plans
Our Hospice Care Services
Discussing care wishes early can help determine when the time is right for you to access the helpful benefits of hospice care.
Many people are surprised to learn that hospice care is often available for six months or more. The comforting care of hospice is helpful for anyone living with cancer, heart disease, liver disease, lung disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s, ALS, and other life-threatening diseases.
Hospice benefits include medications, medical equipment, short-term inpatient care, volunteer visits, and other supportive services.
While hospice care typically is provided at home, there may be times when around-the-clock care is necessary for you to receive the level of medical care you need. When that happens, the Samaritan Centers at Voorhees and at Mount Holly both provide inpatient care in a beautiful, spacious, home-like setting. There, you and your family can focus on each other, while you’re cared for by our team of experts.

- Heart disease
- Stroke
- Liver disease
