Pregnancy Care

Virtua is here to help you have a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery — and then ensure you have the support you need after birth.

Because no two pregnancies or deliveries are the same, we don’t offer a one-size-fits-all approach to maternity care. At Virtua, you’ll receive a pregnancy and birth experience that’s as unique as you are.

Comprehensive, Personalized Pregnancy Care

We offer a pregnancy experience tailored just for you. That often starts with one of the most important decisions: choosing a health care partner.

At Virtua, your provider will guide you through every aspect of your pregnancy and beyond. They’ll help you feel confident and prepared, answering all your questions and addressing any complications or concerns.

OB/GYNs you can rely on

Our team includes dozens of board-certified obstetricians at locations throughout Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties. If you choose an obstetrician for your maternity care, they’ll partner with you to provide:

  • Ongoing prenatal care, including nutrition counseling, risk assessment, screening ultrasounds, and other routine diagnostic tests.
  • Support and treatment for common pregnancy symptoms, discomfort and complications.
  • Education about how pregnancy affects your body and mood, and preparing for labor, delivery, and parenthood.
  • Personalized labor and delivery care at our three maternity hospitals in Camden, Mount Holly, and Voorhees.

Family-centered midwifery care

If you want a more holistic maternity experience, you can also turn to Virtua. We offer full-service midwifery practices, located in Camden, Sicklerville, and Voorhees.

Our certified nurse midwives support you before, during, and after pregnancy. We offer:

  • Comprehensive prenatal care to prepare you for labor, birth, and breastfeeding and help you transition into parenthood.
  • Supported care at one of our three maternity hospitals or at our Midwifery Birth & Wellness Center — South Jersey’s only freestanding birth center.
  • Expertise in natural childbirth, breathing and relaxation exercises, and water birth (available only at our freestanding birthing center).

Expertise in maternal-fetal medicine

If you need a higher level of care during pregnancy, you’ll find it at Virtua. Our maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) doctors care for patients whose pregnancies are considered high-risk.

Your provider may refer you to an MFM specialist for one or more reasons, including:

  • You’re 35 or older.
  • You’re expecting multiples (twins, triplets).
  • You have an existing health condition, such as diabetes or heart disease, that can cause complications for you or your baby.
  • You develop a serious complication, such as preeclampsia, during pregnancy.

Our MFM specialists work closely with your other providers to keep you and your baby as healthy as possible before, during, and after birth.

Expert neonatal care

We can also give your baby the extra medical treatment or support they may need immediately after birth. We offer:

Our SCNs and NICU are staffed by neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). This team — from one of the nation’s top-ranked children’s hospitals — can handle premature births and nearly any condition or complication.

Virtua Pregnancy Care Providers

Our obstetricians and certified nurse midwives are here to support you during pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond.

Our Approach to Pregnancy Care

We believe helping you understand all aspects of your pregnancy will guide you toward a healthier pregnancy.

That’s why we make ongoing education and support key components of your care plan. For example, we offer:

  • Clinical guidance: Your obstetrician, midwife, or MFM specialist is your dedicated care partner throughout your pregnancy and beyond. Whether you’re worried about new belly pain or need help managing severe heartburn, you can count on your provider for expert advice.
  • A team approach: During labor and delivery, your entire care team will have a huddle with you and your support person. This gives you the opportunity to be an active participant in decisions related to your care and ensures your preferences are heard and understood.
  • A wide range of classes: We offer an abundance of in-person and virtual classes to help you prepare for childbirth and parenting. Topics include creating a birth plan, breathing and relaxation, labor and delivery preparation, caring for a newborn, and breastfeeding.
  • Timely information: Get free information about pregnancy and childbirth delivered directly to your inbox.

Constant communication

Our goal is to make sure you feel heard and well-informed at every stage of your pregnancy. For example, during labor and delivery, your care team continuously discusses how your labor is going with you and with each other. This allows you and your entire team stay on the same page. It also helps you understand what’s happening, while ensuring your care team follows your wishes.
