Time Is Brain: Know Your Stroke Symptoms
During a stroke, every minute counts. Recognizing the early signs can mean the difference between recovery and permanent damage.

Why Time Matters in Stroke Treatment
When it comes to strokes, we use the phrase “time is brain,” and here’s why: if you or a loved one is experiencing a stroke, immediate treatment is critical.
A stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked — usually by a blood clot or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. When this happens, the affected area of the brain is starved of oxygen, and the longer the delay in treatment, the more brain cells are lost. In fact, almost 2 million brain cells die each minute during a stroke. This makes immediate medical intervention essential to preventing permanent damage.
Recognize the Signs of Stroke
Recent medical advances have made stroke treatment more effective than ever, but it all starts with recognizing the warning signs early. If you notice any of the following symptoms in yourself or a loved one, call 911 immediately:
- Balance issues
- Arm weakness (unable to raise both arms evenly)
- Slurred or jumbled speech
- Blurry vision
The faster you act, the better the chances of a full recovery. Remember, time is brain.
